Thane Pallister, earl of Mansfield and an arrogant and dashing war hero, is everything Lindsey dislikes about the nobility, and Drake does little to make him interesting or appealing: his motivation for investigating the murders is murky, just like his personality and his turbulent relationship with his family. The passion between the two is very stop-and-go, and the mystery just a prop to move Lindsey and Thane toward the bedroom.
