Osborne's nineteenth-century American romance is more traditionally romantic. Wealthy young Juliette March is searching for her missing husband. When she stops at an inn run by Clara Klaus, she discovers that the robust German is wearing a wedding ring identical to hers, and indeed, they've married the same scoundrel. They head north and discover that he has joined the Klondike gold rush and married a third woman, Zoe Wilder. Intent on revenge, the three continue the grueling search together, experiencing the hardships of seasickness and a trek across Alaska and Canada. Each young woman discerns her own unique strengths and inner resources along the way and meets her ideal mate. Osborne, a multiple romance-award winner, effectively portrays endearing heroines, sexily heroic heroes, and tastefully erotic encounters.
